..is a new project by movement artist Simon Whitehead for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
From walking the park at night Whitehead has developed small wearable light sculpture and shelters that illuminate the walker in the dark, whilst navigating the Park.
“somewhere in the dark between sleeping cities people
are walking and as they walk, they emanate light.”
At YSP Simon will be realising these sculptural pieces by inviting couples: lovers, friends, parents and children, neighbours and strangers to walk in the park together each season wearing shoes that glow. Where walking in the dark may reshape and reinvent their experience of this landscape(and possibly of each other).
The power for these light shoes will be harvested from the sun; sourced from solar hats worn by park employees and young visitors during the day.
'Walks to Illuminate' is supported by a Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales and by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. |
